San Sebastian by Land
We would like to invite you to a getaway that has not yet been discovered by the crowds of Puerto Vallarta. San Sebastián is an old silver mining town in the Sierra Madre Mountains at an elevation of 4500ft. Join us and discover another side of Mexico and the historical and traditional richness of a half-forgotten mountain village.
Be amazed by the most beautiful scenery and local character of the mountains as we take you on a comfortable 90-minute drive to San Sebastián in one of our fully air-conditioned mini vans. Sit back and relax as you take in the breathtaking view of the mountains, the jungles, and glimpses of rural Mexican village life. San Sebastián was settled in 1605 and became a prosperous mining town in the 18th century when the population reached its peak with over 30,000 inhabitants. The next centuries brought constant changes to the town as gold and silver was mined until the 1930s. These times are over and today San Sebastián has a population of 600 residents who make a living with corn, cattle, coffee, and agave in this now quaint and beautiful village.
Take a stroll around the town and feel the atmosphere of times long gone as tradition and history lingers in the streets, buildings, and way of life. Visit the cobblestone plaza, photograph the white houses, the old church from the 18th century, and the historical “Hacienda Sebastián.” You, too, will be entirely enchanted by this lovely town in the Sierra Madre Mountains.
